It's been more than a little wet around here. Guess I won't be biking the waterfront trail for a while.

Now that winter is over I need to put the rain gauge out again.

I can't type anything in Twitter. I was about to tweet something, then found I couldn't say it in 140 characters. That always happens. Usually I waste 15 minutes trying to figure out how to rephrase it, or break down and post two tweets. Since they accept multiple photos in a tweet it's past time they dropped that stupid limit.

I was trying to use a chainsaw today to cut down a dead tree at my parents' place. I couldn't get the chain to move. I pushed the safety brake forward to no effect. Then I completely tore the chainsaw down to find the problem. The problem ended up being that I didn't push the brake forward hard enough. I thought the resistance was as far as the brake lever went, but I had to push through the resistance to actually release the brake.

The weather was too nice a couple days ago to not go on a bicycle ride.

I went on one of my usual routes. A rail trail heading west out of town. It is a quiet nature trail that has a constant slight uphill grade for 10km, then a level grade. So it provides solid exercise going out of town, then a slight downhill for going home faster. Since it goes to the next city the trail allows me to do rides between 12 and 84km. This ride was 38km.

Anyhow, at the 12km distance marker there is a bog overlook. There are concrete ruins, but I can't find information on them. It is shortly after the top of the long track grade, so probably to service the train.

On the ride there were a ton of frogs singing, and a snake.

Livejournal finally crossed the line for me. They pushed an intolerable terms of service change. I couldn't export my journal to here until I agreed. Once satisfied old posts will live on here I might nuke most of the the old posts on LJ.

Not sure how active I'll be here. LJ was mostly dead with the phantom friends list. And my life is more boring than ever.

I also have accounts on, but don't like, both Twitter and Facebook.

Someone sent me a link to a live stream of a wild fox den with kits.

All the cute foxes will slow down getting things done on the computer.

On a recent drive we chanced across the Garlyn Zoo in the U.P. of Michigan. They had a fox family of four there. The kits were active doing the usual fox kit things, like chewing on roots and wrestling each other.

They matched the coloration of their parents. One marble phase, and one brownish grey kit.

Here is a video of them wrestling. To spoil the ending, one gets the other's tail at the end.

Edit: I have a fair amount of fox photography (though most of it taken at zoos). If anyone wants higher quality versions (or quantity) of these, I can always burn DVDs of them. You can make copies, though I do not release them to public domain.

If you go to this site:
and click on their purple 'click to give' button, it donates 0.6 bowls (4.8oz) of food to various animal shelters. It can be clicked once per day. The only cost is you will see some small banner ads on the next page.

Normally I'm suspicious of anything like this, but here are two sites listing it as legit.

Here is a fox video that I took the day after we got married last year. He is chatting away for something.

Fox post

A while back we visited a zoo with three non-standard colour red foxes.

It was a hot day, and they were all panting like crazy.

Two of them also tried to stay in their hutch because idiots were actually encouraged to toss them peanuts. There was a sign up that said "We Like Peanuts". The place sold peanuts with admissions. Yes, foxes are omnivores, but they don't dig being rained on by peanuts.

Anyway, on to a few pics:

The first fox reminds me of Basil. They share somewhat similar markings, though this guy has a white back.

Basil cousin

This next guy looks like a Welsh Corgi fox! It's some sort of reverting marble phase. He looked similar to the marble phase fox, except for areas of red returning. Never seen anything like it before.

And here is the marble phase fox of the group. This one is quite cute.

Isn't it neat how windmills pull energy right out of the sky?

This was taken last Sunday outside of Fond du Lac, WI.
