A while back we visited a zoo with three non-standard colour red foxes.

It was a hot day, and they were all panting like crazy.

Two of them also tried to stay in their hutch because idiots were actually encouraged to toss them peanuts. There was a sign up that said "We Like Peanuts". The place sold peanuts with admissions. Yes, foxes are omnivores, but they don't dig being rained on by peanuts.

Anyway, on to a few pics:

The first fox reminds me of Basil. They share somewhat similar markings, though this guy has a white back.

Basil cousin

This next guy looks like a Welsh Corgi fox! It's some sort of reverting marble phase. He looked similar to the marble phase fox, except for areas of red returning. Never seen anything like it before.

And here is the marble phase fox of the group. This one is quite cute.

And here is the fox battle!

They've been practicing for that. I uploaded a video of them squawking.

Since they are probably from the same litter, I wonder if someone ever brought a female welsh corgi in heat to Wolf Park. ;-)

Awww, so cute. And now I have to show this video to all my friends who don't believe me when I say that foxes can make a noise that sounds like a meowing.

Adorable:) I especially love the video of the Gekkering (properly termed). It's been too long since I have heard a 'conversation'. :)

So that's gekkering. I've heard it many times from two other foxes, but usually it's pretty brief.

yeah, a lot of the times they'll just have a brief altercation, make a couple of soft noises at each other and quit. But if they really get into it, the show can be something. Nearing breeding season when they all get really active, Ember and Devon would sometimes go into 3-5 minute screaming fits at each other, even jaw sparring a little bit while they carried on. I have video somewhere, remind me, I can try to get it to you if you like.
